How Chiropractic Care Has Helped Me Live Migraine Free

For those who may not know me, I am one of the office managers at Summit Chiropractic Center. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, you can find me behind the desk greeting patients, answering calls, scheduling appointments and helping the doctors ensure that their day runs smoothly. I love what I do because I get to witness people healing every day… and that is an awesome feeling.

Being a patient of Dr. Tilyr’s myself for the last 4 years, I fully believe in the benefits of regular chiropractic care. I met him back in 2015 at a 10k race; he recommended that I come in for a consultation after hearing that I had been struggling with shin splints during my training. I never would have realized how fateful that meeting was, as Dr. Tilyr would end up helping me with so much more during the next 4 years. 

I had been struggling with migraines ever since I graduated from college. It seemed as if I was experiencing headaches daily, sometimes so bad that I could not get out of bed for an entire day. And even though I had worked hard to clean up my diet, be more active and stay hydrated, none of it seemed to be enough to overcome the effects of my poor posture and 40-hours-a-week desk job.

While working with Dr. Tilyr, we discovered that over time this combination had actually caused my neck alignment to move forward a few degrees. What seemed like a slight variation actually increased the weight that my neck and shoulders were carrying every single day. This was increasing the muscle tension in my upper back and triggering many different symptoms, including my daily headaches. 

After sitting down to review my x-rays together, Dr. Tilyr thoroughly explained his treatment plan to me. Having never been to a chiropractor before, I was very appreciative that he encouraged such an open dialogue right from the beginning so that I always knew why he was doing something. I could tell that having me trust in the process was really important to him and therefore it became very important to me. After a few weeks of consistent adjustments, as well as some at-home exercises, we did another set of x-rays. I was blown away by the difference; not only was I seeing the benefits but I was feeling them as well. 

For the last four years, I have tried to stay as consistent as possible with my bi-weekly adjustments. Adding them in – along with other lifestyle changes – has helped to keep me migraine free for almost 4 years! I love sharing my story with patients that come in… to me, it really shows the major effects that even small misalignments can have on our entire body. Chiropractic adjustments have been a key addition to my overall wellness routine because they help me proactively heal my body rather than just passively fighting daily symptoms
